New coffee shop Larry & Ladd didn’t happen overnight, but it came close. Adelaide developer Ginos Group approached Coffee Branch co-owner Josh Baker about taking a tenancy in Regent Arcade. Within a matter of days, plans, partnerships and the process of constructing an entirely new business – had begun.

Shop 36 Regent Arcade
Open: Mon – Fri from 7:00am
Saturday from 10:00am

At the helm of the new shop and behind the beautiful matte black Synesso is part-owner Jeremy Downey, former barista at Coffee Branch. Alongside him are some familiar faces and brands, including 5 Senses coffee beans, Tweedvale milk, Besa juices and Cape Grim water. What differentiates this operation from other Adelaide coffee shops is the collaboration at its core.

“After George Ginos spoke to me about the property, I thought about it,” says Josh Baker. “I knew I didn’t want to franchise what we have and what’s so unique about Branch. I wanted to do something that was unique in itself and I seriously just didn’t have the time to do another shop without other people,” he says.

That’s when Josh turned to the guy next to him, Jeremy Downey. He also gave Ian Callahan at Bar 9 a call. Amazingly everyone was ready, willing and able to make the shop happen.

We visit at 7:00am on day one of trading in Regent Arcade and the shop is slowly filling with people already forging a new habit for their daily commute. Long polished concrete communal tables provide ample space for the laptop and tablet types, while a single, elegant black shelf holds a neat selection of fine magazines (curated by us!) for you to purchase.

Beyond the expectation of good coffee, which Larry & Ladd delivers, the food offer is completely surprising. Tiny pintxos sandwiches featuring all our favourite salted meats, cheeses and pickles are being put out on boards, ready to grab and go. All delicious and all at the $5.00 mark, they will suit the frugal among us. CityMag will take two, thank you.
